Massachusetts man, 18, seriously hurt in North Kingstown tractor-trailer crash

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A Franklin, Massachusetts, man was seriously hurt after he was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer in North Kingstown, according to authorities.
The crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Roger Williams Way and Commerce Park Road.
Police said Kevin Batiz, 18, who was driving a black 2023 Toyota Camry, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
Batiz was the only person in that car.

Police said the tractor-trailer driver, a 41-year-old Providence man, wasn’t injured.
Capt. John MacCoy Jr. said speed was a factor in the crash and may have resulted from drag racing.
MacCoy said witnesses identified the other car involved as white or silver with a shape similar to a Honda Civic.
While the crash remains under investigation, police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call detectives at 401-294-3316 ext. 8211.
