Massachusetts mattress, textile disposal ban begins

SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — As of Nov. 1, all Massachusetts residents will be forced to recycle household items in an effort to help the environment.

Items that can no longer be thrown out include mattresses, box springs, clothing, and bedding.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection said that bout 450,000 mattresses thrown out each year can be reused for parts.

Similarly, roughly 190,000 tons of textiles across the state can be recycled each year.

Companies and facilities will also face a ban of disposing over one-half ton of food per week.
