Massachusetts now offering monkeypox vaccine in Bristol County

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – Massachusetts health officials have expanded distribution of the monkeypox vaccine Monday.

The JYNNEOS monkeypox vaccine is now available in 11 locations, including one in Bristol County that will open July 25.

The vaccine is being administered at Seven Hills Behavioral Health in New Bedford, open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Administration of the vaccine will be by appointment only, as eligibility will remain limited to the highest-risk people, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Earlier this month, the state received 2,004 first doses of the vaccine and distributed those doses to four clinics.

The Department said the vaccine is two-doses, with shots 28 days apart. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second shot.

As of Thursday, there was a total of 49 cases in the state since May 18.
