Massachusetts State Police arrest man in stolen truck after pursuit

LYNNFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police said they arrested a man who stole a truck after a chase from the Tobin Bridge to Lynnfield.

Police said Tuesday night, a trooper was on patrol on the northbound side of the Tobin Bridge when a gray Toyota Tacoma sped past his cruiser at an extremely high rate of speed.

The trooper said the Toyota truck then drove into a construction zone, knocking over every cone in the area. The trooper then began following the truck with his lights and sirens on.

Officials said the trooper pursued the truck across the bridge and then on Route One North through Chelsea and Revere at speeds between 110 and 115 miles-per-hour.

As the chase continued, authorities determined the truck was stolen out of Brockton and was fleeing a crash with an SUV in the Cana Tunnel prior to officers engaging in a pursuit. No injuries were reported from that crash.

The chase took troopers through Saugus and into Lynnfield where police said the driver of the truck lost control and crashed into a median inside the Lynnfield Tunnel under the Route-129 overpass. The crash caused extensive damage to the concrete barriers.

The trooper said he approached the crashed truck and placed the driver, Denny Fernandes De Pina Andrade into custody.

Further investigation revealed Andrade’s license had been suspended since August of 2021 for failure to pay fines. Officials said he declined medical treatment and had no apparent injuries.

Andrade was later taken to the State Police-Tunnels Barracks and booked on the following offenses:

  • Larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Receiving a stolen motor vehicle
  • Failure to stop for police
  • Leaving the scene of a crash that caused property damage
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Operating after license suspension
  • Speeding
  • Marked lanes violations

A bail clerk set bail at $540 and Andrade was held overnight in anticipation of an early-morning arraignment.
