Massachusetts Troopers Investigating multiple fatal accidents

NORTON/SOMERVILLE, MASS (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police are investigating two separate motor vehicle accidents that resulted in two fatalities on Saturday. 

The first accident, in Somerville happened on Mystic Avenue southbound, south of Route 28 just before 8:00 pm where a 50-51-year old was struck by a car. 

The vehicle continued southbound after the crash.

The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she was pronounced deceased a short time later. 

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was on foot in the crosswalk when she was struck. 

The driver of the vehicle, only identified as male, turned himself in Sunday morning and charges are being finalized. 

The second crash occurred on Route 494 northbound North of Exit 10 in Norton, at approximately 10:00 pm. 

Trooper assigned to State Police Foxboro responded to reports of a two vehicle crash with serious injuries. 

For reasons that remain under investigation, the two vehicles collided causing one vehicle to veer off the roadway and strike a tree, resulting in the death of a 49-year-old female passenger from Taunton. 

Both Norton and Mansfield Fire Departments both responded to the scene and requested MedFlight for the operator, a 46-year-old man from Taunton. 

The operator of the other vehicle was identified as a 22-year-old man from Middleborough, was not injured. 

No further information is available at this time as further investigation steps are being taken.
