Mayor Picozzi announces plan for new ice rink in Warwick

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi announced on Wednesday the city’s plan to build a new ice rink behind City Hall, where the Annex Building used to stand.

“City Hall Plaza” will be used as an ice skating rink during the winter months, but will still be a year round event center, similar to the rink in Kennedy Plaza.

The plaza will host roller skating, pickle ball, farmers markets, movie nights, dances, concerts, as well as acting as a splash bad in the summer.

The city will fund the project with a $3.5 million recreation bond and some potential federal grants.

Picozzi has been hoping to accomplish this project since being sworn into office.
