Mayor Picozzi feels ‘like a little kid on Christmas morning’ with arrival of new garbage trucks in Warwick

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- Warwick mayor Frank Picozzi announced on Wednesday that first of five garbage trucks new to Warwick had arrived in the city.

In a post to his Facebook page, the mayor said that he felt “like a little kid on Christmas morning” when the first truck arrived Wednesday.

The truck is the first of two expected to arrive this week, both have low mileage and are like new, the mayor said.

Mayor Picozzi will be a big help to the city, which is dealing with an ongoing trash pick up problem.

“We have a fleet of 15 trucks and there will be 7 or 8 of them out,” the mayor said.

He said that the city has had to take a lot of measures to counteract that issue.

“We have guys out until 8 or 9 p.m. sometimes trying to get it done because what we’ve had is half the fleet, and half the fleet has to do twice the work,” Picozzi continued.

The other three new garbage trucks are expected to arrive in December.
