Mayor Taveras Meeting with Providence Retirees

Things are heating up at a meeting that Providence Mayor Angel Taveras is holding with retired city workers, over cost-saving measures that could impact their pensions.

One proposal is the elimination of cost-of-living adjustments, or COLAs. These increases are designed to help retirees keep up with increasing living expenses.

Eliminating them could save Providence $16 million, but some retirees aren't inclined to let that happen.

 “You're asking me to live on the same pay I make now, in 10 years? You might not even be in this state in 10 years!” One retiree said.
