PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee announced Monday that he appointed Liz Tanner as Rhode Island’s next secretary of commerce.

“Liz knows the ins-and-outs of small business and she has proven she will do what it takes to make Rhode Island a better place to live and work,” McKee said.

Prior to taking on her new role, Tanner served as the director of the Department of Business Regulation,  since 2017, as well as the executive vice president of client services at Rhode Island Commerce Corporation.

She expressed excitement about stepping into the new role, saying, “It is an honor to step into a role that allows me to continue my passion in promoting the state’s economic and workforce development.”

She will start working with commerce effective immediately.

Stefan Pyror announced two weeks ago that he was stepping down as secretary of commerce to enter the race to replace Seth Magaziner as general treasurer.
