CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee announced a new program to lower carbon emissions and energy costs on Thursday.

The High-Efficiency Heat Pump Program will provide financial incentives to residents and businesses to acquire the electric heat pumps, according to the governor’s office.

“I am proud to announce that Rhode Island residents and businesses will have access to heat pump rebates that will help improve our state’s energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said McKee.

McKee’s signed the state’s budget last month, investing $25 million toward the creation of the program.

The announcement was held at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Cranston.
