‘Rhode Island is making significant progress’: McKee celebrates housing investments
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee paid a visit to Crossroads Rhode Island Monday.
The governor highlighted the success of the state’s investment in housing for the homeless.
“By investing in both immediate needs like expanding our statewide shelter capacity and long-term projects like Crossroads’ Summer Street Apartment development, Rhode Island is making significant progress when it comes to strengthening our housing stock in a way that will better serve the needs of all residents,” McKee said.
Rhode Island’s budget set aside $10 million to support the development of Crossroads’ Summer Street Apartments.
McKee was joined by Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse for the “Celebration of Housing” event.
“We’ve got to address housing scarcity, affordability, and get people into quality, permanent housing through projects like this. The Summer Street Apartments will offer people access to quality, long-term, stable housing that’s right for them,” Reed added.
The groundbreaking of the Summer Street Apartments is expected to happen in spring of 2023.
