PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee won the Rhode Island democratic party’s endorsement for governor on Sunday.

The primary election will be on Sept. 13.

McKee showed gratitude for the endorsement by saying, “I’m grateful to receive the endorsement of the Rhode Island Democratic Party.”

“At this critical moment when we must protect reproductive rights, pass common sense gun legislation, and continue our strong economic momentum, I’m looking forward to helping elect Democrats up and down the ballot as our nominee,” he continued.

As McKee’s campaign gains traction, he showed eagerness to interact with Rhode Island residents.

“We are laying the foundation to build a Rhode Island that will be a better place to live, work, and raise a family — but there’s still a lot of work left to be done. I look forward to engaging directly with voters on the campaign trail in the coming months to discuss my vision for Rhode Island’s future,” said the governor.
