CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, in partnership with Progresso Latino, launched a Latin café site on Tuesday.

The café is part of the organization’s Capital City Café Program and is catered to more mobile seniors.

‘This is a great opportunity for our state’s older adult Latinx population to build community around a monthly lunch,” MOWRI Outreach Director Luz Filpo said. “The program will include a healthy lunch, a guest speaker, and resources for helping them to stay healthy.”

The new café is hosted at 765 Lounge & Restaurant.

The Capital City Café Program is open to Rhode Island residents aged 60 and older.

The program is available to seniors at no cost, though diners are asked to make a suggested $5 donation per meal and registration is required.

“Progresso Latino’s team is enthusiastic about the opening of the Latin Capital City Café Program dining site,” Progresso Latino Executive Director Mario Bueno said. “It’s essential that hunger reduction organizations such as Meals on Wheels offer culturally appropriate foods that contribute to happier and healthier communities.”
