Meet the Candidates: Rep. Stephen Casey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — ABC 6 News spoke with Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District election, state Rep. Stephen Casey on Monday.
A current Woonsocket firefighter, Casey told ABC 6 he understands the struggles of Rhode Islanders.
From his time with the rescue team, Casey said he’s seen the state’s need for mental health and substance abuse services.
“I feel like I’ve been doing this all my life. My dad was a politician when I was a kid and I used to follow him around and shake hands and hold signs at the polls, and I really got a decent understanding of the political process and having been at the State House in leadership positions for the last 10 years, it’s really opened my eyes to what the possibilities can be,” Casey explained.
The special election for the 1st Congressional District seat to replace former Rep. David Cicilline will take place on Sept. 5.
