Mendon Road in Cumberland closed again after more piping issues
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — Mendon Road in Cumberland was closed again Tuesday after more water main issues, the Cumberland Police Department said.
Construction crews told ABC 6 News they arrived to the area but quickly realized this was not another water main break.
Officials said it was a smaller issue that was not related to Tuesdays flash-flooding
Romeo Mendes, Cumberland Water Superintendent said, “We don’t believe this was connected to or as a result of anything that happened yesterday. I believe it was just its time to go. And so with a water system of this size, with 140 miles of main, it’s not a question of if, it’s just when.”
Mendes said Tuesday’s issue impacts the same customers as Monday’s full break. He said he’s hopeful Tuesday’s fix will be more permanent, but repairs will be needed eventually.
“So, this is an actual repair. At some point, and this is future capital work — this line will be replaced. But that’s, you know, five, 10, 15 years in the future,” Mendes explained.
Residents spoke to ABC 6 News saying they didn’t see brown water in their taps or notice any loss of service.
Mendes said crews are expected to be clear from the scene around midnight.
