The city of Woonsocket has a new State Representative.

Michael Morin was sworn in at the State house Tuesday afternoon, Secretary of State Ralph Mollis administered the oath of office to Morin.

The 48-year old Democrat is a Woonsocket firefighter and head of the firefighters' union.

Morin was the only candidate on the ballot in February and received 233-votes.

The newly elected State Representative will now take the seat that Lisa Baldelli-Hunt gave up when she became the Mayor of Woonsocket.

In a statement Morin says: “I am honored to serve the people of District 49 and I look forward to fulfilling the duties they've entrusted to me. I plan to work hard to learn quickly, because even though I'm getting here almost halfway through the session, I want my constituents to be fully represented,”.
