Michelle Rothgeb surrenders, held without bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Michelle Rothgeb, the adoptive mother of a disabled 9-year-old girl found dead in her Warwick home, turned herself in to authorities on Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Rhode Island attorney general said.

Rothgeb is being held without bail, Kristy dosReis, spokeswoman for Attorney General Peter Neronha, told ABC6.

A judge had issued an arrest warrant for Rothgeb after she failed to appear at a court date yesterday.

The judge told Rothgeb’s lawyer that the woman would face serious consequences if she failed to appear in court next week.

Rothgeb is due to appear in court next Wednesday.

Rothgeb had initially been arrested in January 2019 after her adopted daughter,9-year-old Zah-Nae Wilkerson, was found dead in a bathtub in the family’s home.
