Middletown Woman Eludes Would-Be Carjacker

An elderly Middletown woman escaped from a man attempting to carjack her Saturday in Fall River.

When 77 year-old Evelyn Sousa was getting back into her car after doing some shopping at a supermarket she found a man sitting in the passenger seat of her car.  She demanded to know what he was doing, and he demanded that she just start driving.

When she refused, he hit her, at which point she opened her door and started screaming for help.  The man took her pocketbook and ran while a witness gave chase – the suspect was able to get away.

Sousa's husband is furious and says his wife is still shaken up from the incident.
