Mike Lowell Upset with Diminished Role with the Sox
NEW YORK (AP) – Mike Lowell has expressed a season's worth of
frustration at his diminished role on the Boston Red Sox after he
was left out of the lineup against the New York Yankees.
The right-handed hitting Lowell says it's “painfully evident”
there is no role for him on the Red Sox. He was not in the lineup
for Monday's loss to New York and was on the bench Tuesday night
with left-hander CC Sabathia set to pitch for the Yankees, weather
permitting.
David Ortiz, a lefty, was in the lineup as the designated
hitter.
Lowell lost his starting job at third base when the Red Sox
signed Adrian Beltre in the offseason. Ortiz's resurgence has left
little room at DH for the 2007 World Series MVP.
In 57 at-bats, Lowell is hitting .263 with one homer and nine
RBIs.
