Military veteran gets help with new roof


WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — It’s been a long two years for Army veteran, Mirqui Jimenez, of West Warwick, but Wednesday, she received help with a new roof on her home.

Jimenez, who spent a year in Iraq as a communications specialist, has had all sorts of surprise repairs, since buying her home in December of 2016.

Jimenez said, “Things got a little crazy and I had to start doing things on my own because I just can’t afford certain repairs, like plumbing, I had to cut my own piping and YouTube how to take things down.”

But Wednesday, she was able to get some professional help, free of cost on her home’s largest project, the roof.

 “I don’t know if I could have made it another winter without my roof getting done,” she said.

Thanks to habitat for humanity Rhode Island Home Improvements and Owen’s Corning, Jimenez should have a new, leak-free roof by tomorrow afternoon.

A happy, emotional day for the veteran whose been through so much.
