FAIRHAVEN, Mass. – A widescale search for a missing boater ended after police found the man walking on an area beach, still dressed in his wetsuit.

Police found Gary Alves, the boater in question, who told police he had been struck in the head with the boom of his boat and knocked unconscious. Rescuers had been searching for Alves after his kayak was found washed at the southern point of West Island.

Police say Alves told then when he awoke, he was lying in a marsh area. Alves was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation, and is expected to be okay.
