Mixing baseball and fashion, Worcester art exhibit displays both
Providence fashion designer has two pieces featured in exhibit
WORCESTER, MA (WLNE) – Whether you love the game of baseball, or just love the uniforms the players wear, a new exhibit at the Worcester Art Museum has you covered. It’s called “The Iconic Jersey: Baseball X Fashion” exhibit.
“When you put it on it is a way for you to talk about who you are and who you want to be,” exhibit curator Dr. Erin Corrales-Diaz said.
The exhibit coincides with the opening of Polar Park in Worcester, and follows the 170 year history of one of baseball’s most recognizable garments. Different sections of the exhibit include jerseys from the 1800s, to a special section that shows the baseball jersey’s impact on social issues and in hip hop culture.
Local fashion designer Amy Page DeBlasio even has two of her own designs featured in this exhibit.
“I thought, why does it have to be a men’s garment? Why can’t it be for a female? So I decided to make a baseball jersey dress,” she said. DeBlasio is also the only woman to be featured in the exhibit. “It’s truly breathtaking. It’s a highlight in my career to date.” DeBlasio, is from Providence and currently owns a boutique in Pawtucket. You can find her work at amypagedeblasio.com.
If you want to go check this exhibit out, you’re going to have to hurry, It’s only running until September 12th.
