Mobster’s Wife, Son Sentenced In Federal Court
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The wife of reputed Rhode Island mobster Anthony “The Saint” St. Laurent Sr. has avoided prison for extorting payments from Massachusetts bookmakers, though the couple's son has received six and a half years behind bars on the same charges.
Dorothy St. Laurent was sentenced Friday to three years' probation and ordered to do 500 hours of community service. Her son, Anthony St. Laurent Jr., was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
They pleaded guilty in August to taking “protection” money from bookmakers in Taunton on behalf of St. Laurent Sr., who prosecutors say is a member of the Patriarca crime family. St. Laurent Sr. is jailed while awaiting trial on charges that he tried to order a rival mobster killed. He is also charged in the extortion case.
