PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A candidate for the Congressional seat being vacated by Jim Langevin has bowed out of the race.

Providence firefighter Cameron Moquin announced Tuesday night he was dropping out the race.

“My campaign is simply not prepared to enter a battle that risks losing a House seat to Republicans,” wrote Moquin in a statement.

Moquin is now backing former state Rep. David Segal.

“Segal’s campaign also has the infrastructure, finances and energy needed to be successful against the Republican opponent,” said Moquin

Other candidates vying for the Democratic nod are Seth Magaziner, Sarah Morgenthau, Joy Fox and Omar Bah.

The winner of the Democratic primary is expected to face off against former Cranston Mayor Allan Fung in November.
