Mother searches for hit and run driver, 15-year-old son left lying on road
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE): A mother in Narragansett is searching for a driver that hit her 15-year-old son and left him lying on the road.
On Sunday night around 11 p.m., the teen was skateboarding on Old Pine Road, when he said a driver hit him and then drove away,
“I’m so happy he is alive, and I am thankful he is here,” said the boy’s mother, who did not want to identify herself on camera. “I am more than blessed nothing happened to him.”
Her son was with a friend when they heard the car coming from behind.
“He turned away and saw a headlight and that’s the last thing he remembers,” she said.
She immediately brought him to the hospital and called the police. Aside from his back, which is heavily bruised with “road rash”, he’s doing well.
However, this mother now wants answers.
“To hit a child and leave him on the road, it’s devastating,” she said. “I don’t wish that on anyone.”
The 15-year-old and his friend believe the car responsible was sedan. However, because it was dark, they could not get a clear view.
“My hope is for someone to turn themselves in,” the boy’s mother said. “I don’t understand how you can leave a child on the road like that.”
Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Narragansett Police Department’s Detective Division: 401-789-1091
Detective Lieutenant Scott Velone said police are investigating and are asking any neighbors with surveillance footage to contact them.
