Norton Police Department (WLNE)

NORTON Mass. (WLNE) — A motorcyclist was sent to the hospital Saturday afternoon after a crash in Norton.

Lieut. Todd Jackson said the accident happened around noon on West Main and Freeman Streets.

Police attempted to stop two men on separate motorcycles. However, both sped off from police.

When the officer caught up to one of the drivers, 21-year-old Jack Mespelli from Norton, rear-ended another vehicle that was coming out of a parking lot.

Norton police “did not actively pursue the motorcycles at that time, but followed at a safe distance,” said Jackson in a statement.

Mespelli was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious but non-life threatening leg injuries.

He was charged with speeding, failing to stop for police, and reckless driving.

The other motorcyclist turned himself in later in the day, according to police. Blaise German, 21, of Norton, was charged for speeding and not stopping for police.
