MSPCA-Angell to hold free adopt-a-thon for pigs at Nevins Farm this weekend
METHUEN, Mass. (WLNE) — Those looking for a new companion can adopt a pig for free with the MSPCA-Angell at Nevins Farm in Methuen this weekend.
An owner brought seven pigs to the farm, saying they had too many animals than they were able to take care of.
They were shy when they first arrived at the farm, and shelter officials have been working on socializing them for the past few weeks.

Although not as common as cats and dogs, the MSPCA-Angell says they can form lifelong bonds with people.
“Many don’t know this, but pigs are great companions for the right people,” said Navarro. “They’re smart, inquisitive and friendly. They even enjoy belly rubs and snuggles, and can form life-long bonds with humans and other pigs.”

The MSPCA-Angell is lifting adoption fees for the pigs. Registration is required in advance.
Shelter officials said they usually cost up to $400 to adopt. Those who visit Nevins Farm this weekend can use that money towards food and supplies for their new pet.
The shelter provided information for those who haven’t owned a pig before. People are encouraged to educate themselves on how to take care of a pig before taking one home.
