WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket man is facing several charges after police said he led them on a chase that went into several different communities Monday night.

Woonsocket police said they were alerted just before 10:30 p.m. of a pursuit that started in North Smithfield.

According to a police report, Woonsocket officers joined the chase that stretched into several other communities and that the driver was operating in “a desperate attempt to evade law enforcement.”

Police said the driver hit an SUV in Smithfield and that officers had to use spike strips to slow the car down.

Despite the spike strips causing the tires to go flat, the driver continued to flee police, read the report.

Police said the chase ended after the drive hit a police cruiser.

According to the police report, officers were able to get the driver into custody and that he smelled of alcohol and it appeared he urinated himself.

Police identified the driver as Ryan Nadeau, 34, and charged him with felony assault, eluding law enforcement, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest.

No officers were injured.
