Mural Representing Peace and Hope Now Brightens Pawtucket Park

Pawtucket, RI (WLNE) – The City of Pawtucket unveiled a new mural in Slater Park this weekend. Artist Gabriel Calle Arango donated his time and talent to create the mural.

The city encourages everyone who visits Slater Park to stop by and enjoy the artwork.

At an unveiling ceremony on Saturday, Calle Arango was joined by Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, Senator Sandra Cano, members of Pawtucket City Council, members of the Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture, the Parks Commission and members of the public.

The piece is entitled “Esparanza” and is dedicated to the community.

“The piece, ‘Esparanza’, represents hope and the beauty of the park we all love, ” said Senator Cano in a news release. Cano had originally approached Calle Arango about creating the piece.

Gabriel Calle Arango is a Colombian artist, who has created pieces around the world. Prior to finishing the Pawtucket mural, he had completed two pieces in Spain.
