Murder Suspect Komrowski Attempts Suicide in Jail

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island man accused of killing his girlfriend and then setting fire to her apartment to cover up the crime scene has attempted suicide.

Prison officials say Matthew Komrowski tried to kill himself on Tuesday at about 11:30 a.m. at a Rhode Island jail. No details were immediately released about how the 34-year-old suspect tried to commit suicide.

Komrowski did not sustain life-threatening injuries. He is being treated at a Rhode Island hospital.

Authorities say Komrowski killed Shirley Donnelly, but have not said how they believe she was killed. Donnelly's body was found in the bedroom of her Cranston apartment last Thursday.

Two men tried to approach Komrowski in Kent County Court Monday, but were restrained by court security before they could reach him.
