WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The suspect in the 2013 murder of a Jack Fay has been ruled competent to stand trial.
Michael Soares, arrested in February in connection with the murder, requested a competency evaluation after his arrest.
Soares’ attorney confirmed Tuesday that Soares was found competent to stand trial, and will return to court in April.
Fay’s body was found in 2013 inside a trash can at City Park in Warwick. Using DNA of a relative of Soares obtained from a public database, investigators were able to link Soares to the murder.
Soares’ next court date is April 2nd for a bail hearing.
