Narragansett Officer Tests Positive for Coronavirus

NARRAGANSETT, R.I (WLNE) – The Narragansett Police Department reported that one of its officers tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the department, the officer fell ill on Monday and was ordered to self-quarantine.

The officer was tested on Tuesday and the department was notified of the positive result on Wednesday.

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), will conduct an independent contact and tracing investigation, police say.

An internal review by the department did not reveal any close contacts with residents of the area during the time frame RIDOH said they would investigate for tracing.

The department noted to the city of Narragansett that the positive result does not change police operation, and they have been practicing social distancing.

The Officer is at home with flu-like symptoms, the department said.
