NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Several local eateries were out Thursday night in Newport handing out free food to residents impacted by the natural gas outage.

Binge BBQ, FanTex-Mexical Tacos Food Truck and Poppy’s Waffles Truck were serving up everything from pulled pork sandwiches and tacos, to waffles and vegan three-bean chili.

Binge BBQ, which has a store-front on Broadway Street was also impacted by the natural gas outage, but still wanted to find a way to help out.

“Well we are without gas also just like a lot of people in town. So we haven’t been able to open the past couple of days. It’s impacted our business, our employees with their hours, stuff like that. So it’s a great opportunity for us to come out here and serve everyone in Newport also,”

All three eateries will be out again both Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Newport-based restaurant LoBro Taco will join them as well.
