National Grid to selling subsidiary to company in Pennsylvania

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) –  National Grid announced on Thursday it is selling its subsidiary company, Narragansett Electric Company to PPL Corporation, based in Allentown Pennsylvania.

A part of the agreement, PPL is selling its utility business, Western Power Distribution, the largest electricity distribution business in the UK, to National Grid.

Badar Khan, President of National Grid said, “We are proud of our Narragansett Electric colleagues in their success in building a strong, responsible business. Narragansett Electric will be joining a team at PPL that remains safety-driven, locally focused, and committed to the communities we serve. We are confident of a seamless transition, uninterrupted service, and ongoing support to our customers and teams.”

The Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission expressed while National Grid has its ups and downs, it is embedded here in Rhode Island.

They are excited to see how PPL can address the state’s needs.
