New Bedford home heavily damaged in fire

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – One woman was rescued from a multi-family home in New Bedford that was heavily damaged in a fire Thursday morning.

New Bedford Fire Department responded to a three-story home on 98 Clark Street around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters on scene found heavy flames showing from the third floor of the multi-family unit.

New Bedford Fire told ABC6 that crews on scene were informed that at least one resident was still inside the building. Firefighters searched the building and located one woman on the second floor, who was evacuated from the building and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

Fire crews had the scene secured and the fire knocked down around 1:15 p.m.

Officials said the building is likely a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
