New Bedford man arrested for possession of counterfeit bills

NEW BEDFORD, M.A. (WLNE) – A 22-year-old man was arrested for attempting to use multiple counterfeit bills at a café, officials say.
James Richard Rossi, 22, of Phillips Ave., New Bedford, was arrested after using two counterfeit $50 bills to pay for drinks at Tilia’s Café on Acushnet Ave., Tuesday evening.
A bartender told New Bedford Police, that Rossi also used a third counterfeit $50 to pay for a single beer later on.
New Bedford Police told ABC6 News the bartender looked closely at the bills and determined they were counterfeit; bills were cut unevenly, and there were no signs of a watermark.
Rossi was arrested around 6:59 p.m., when he was found in possession of a large folding knife.
Officials charged Rossi with uttering a counterfeit note and carrying a weapon.
