NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A 50-year-old New Bedford man was sentenced to nearly three years in jail after being convicted of molesting his stepdaughter on several occasions, according to authorities.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Gerson Pascual-Santana was found guilty last week on three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14.

In 2020, the 10-year-old girl disclosed her abuse to her teacher during a classroom exercise, where students shared examples of times they showed bravery to overcome something difficult.

After teacher reported it to police, Quinn said the girl told them of three incidents. She also testified in open court about the abuse.

“I commend the victim for persevering through very difficult circumstances,” Quinn said in part in a release Wednesday. “I hope by the courage she has displayed that she can move forward with her life.”
