New Bedford man, woman arrested on drug charges

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police said Tuesday they arrested a man and woman on drug charges.

Police said they stopped Peightyn Riley and Muhammad Mahmoud, both of New Bedford, Monday after seeing an alleged drug transaction take place between the both of them in the north-end area.

Mahmoud, 30, was found with 49 grams of fentanyl, 9 grams counterfeit Oxycodone, 18 grams of Xanax, two plastic baggies of “crack” cocaine. He also had over $800 in cash, police said.

Mahmoud was charged with trafficking in excess of 36 grams of fentanyl, possession of classes B and E with intent to distribute, distribution of class E, and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance laws.

Riley, 28, was arrested and charged with possession of class E and conspiracy.
