New Bedford Mayor Addresses Biden White House Speculation

NEW BEDFORD, MA (WLNE) – Media outlets are speculating that New Bedford mayor Jon Mitchell is being considered for a position within the incoming Biden White House.

ABC6 News reached out to the mayor’s office Thursday.  Spokesman for the city of New Bedford, Jonathan Carvalho, said Mayor Mitchell is “entirely” focused on helping the city of New Bedford.  Carvalho had no further comment.

During his weekly appearance on Barry Richard’s radio program on 1420 WBSM, Mayor Mitchell said “there is always chatter in these types of things, not to fuel speculation, but the people should know I’m focused on the job (of mayor) right now.”

Mayor Mitchell went on to say “I’ve talked to some folks who have been connected with the transition.  I don’t imagine that anything is going to happen there, nor am I actively pursuing it.”
