NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Mayor Jon Mitchell announced he would seek reelection this year.

In his announcement video, Mitchell said the city has seen “historic growth” over the last several years and that he would like to continue that momentum.

“Together we’ve worked hard to achieve something that so many other older industrial cities haven’t managed to do: we have reversed course,” Mitchell said. “Our job now is to pursue an upward, more sustainable course.”

Mitchell was first elected as mayor in 2012. He last ran in 2019 against City Councilor Brian Gomes.
