NEW BEDFORD, MA (WLNE) – The five nursing homes in New Bedford that closed in May are facing fines up to $85,000.

According to the Attorney General’s office, the owners failed to properly pay more than 100 of its workers.

The Attorney General’s office says it received dozens of complaints from employees saying they weren’t paid on time or couldn’t cash their checks due to insufficient funds.

The five nursing homes were ordered to close in April leaving hundreds of elderly residents without a place to live.
