New Bedford officer knocked unconscious after getting struck by a car

NEW BEDFORD, MASS (WLNE) – A New Bedford police officer was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic on Thursday night.

It happened in the area of East Rodney French Boulevard and Seaview Terrace Around 9:15 pm.

Police say the officer was knocked unconscious after a black sedan hit him.

The officer regained consciousness when emergency crews arrived and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The condition of the officer is currently unknown, and the driver is cooperating with police.

There is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role, according to the department.
