NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford announced that all town beaches would be immediately reopened for swimming on Thursday.

The city said that water quality tests showed the water was once again safe for swimming, according to Department of Public Health standards.

The beaches were closed by the city after heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

Officials said that heavy rainfall flooded parts of the city and overflow from sewers may have reached the beaches’ waters.

More information on water quality tests conducted by the city’s Municipal Marine Laboratory can be found here.
