New Bedford teen arraigned on murder, firearm charges

A 17 year old New Bedford male was arraigned after being charged with murder, armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm Monday. The suspect

Darian Cardoza is being held without bail after being arraigned on August 17th . He was arrested Thursday night at his County Street home for the alleged homicide of 24 year old Jeffrey Sylvia Jr.

The city’s gun shot detection system notified police of shots fired by the intersection of Acushnet Ave. and Blackmer St. around 1:37 a.m.

Police arrived to the area minutes later only to find the victim deceased in the street at the intersection.

Cardoza is due back in court of a hearing on September 18th .
