New Bedford to begin crack-sealing repairs this week

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford announced that it would be performing crack-sealing work along several roads beginning Monday.

The repair work by the city’s Department of Public Infrastructure will take place from Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is expected to be completed by Aug. 7.

The repairs will take place along the following roads:

  • Tallman Street – Acushnet Avenue to Belleville Avenue
  • Brook Street – Irvington Street to Nash Road
  • Princeton Street – Ashley Boulevard to Church Street
  • Sawyer Street – Veterans Memorial Way to Bellville Avenue
  • Bullard Street – Acushnet Avenue to Belleville Avenue
  • Hillman Street – Newton Street to Foster Street
  • Hathaway Boulevard – Rockdale Avenue to Parker Street
  • Route 18 – Elm St. to 200 feet north of Griffin Court
  • Chancery Street – Smith Street to Kempton Street
  • Keene Street – Liberty Street to Chancery Street
  • Acushnet Avenue – Hillman Street to Pearl Street
  • Van Buren Street – Beacon Street to Monroe Drive
  • Portland Street – East Rodney French to West Rodney French
  • Margin Street – Cove Street to Cove Road
  • Rivet Street – Bonney Street to County Street

Drivers should expect road closures and traffic delays. The work will also be weather dependent.

The city said work being done on specific streets will be completed in two to three hours per street with the exception of work along Route 18.

It added that the repairs are part of an ongoing pavement preservation program to extend the life of roads and minimize more costly types of reconstruction methods.
