New Bedford to begin mosquito control spraying next week
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County Mosquito Control Project will begin targeted ground sprayings in New Bedford next week.
The sprayings will take place every Thursday starting June 15 between 2 a.m. and sunrise. In the event of rain the sprayings will take place Friday mornings.
Each spraying will target public parks and locations that host large public events, and will include Buttonwood Park, Brooklawn Park, Fort Taber, Hazelwood Park, Riverside Park, Clasky Common Park, Ashley Park, the Wing’s Court and Custom House Square areas, and the downtown area.
Residents near targeted areas may wish to close their windows in the evenings prior to sprayings, the project added.
The sprayings are part of a partnership between the Bristol County Mosquito Control Project, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the New Bedford Health Department to monitor the potential threat from mosquitoes that could be carrying Eastern equine encephalitis or West Nile virus.
