New Bedford woman arrested for OUI, children in her vehicle

NEW BEDFORD, R.I (WLNE) – A New Bedford woman was arrested on Thursday for an OUI charge after hitting a parked car while her children were in her vehicle.

Yarmouth police officers were dispatched to the Cape Sands Inn Motel for a reported motor vehicle crash.

The person who called police said a grey Nissan SUV entered the parking lot and struck a parked vehicle.

Witnesses say that after the crash, the operator of the vehicle, now identified as 31-year-old Melinda Roberson ran into a nearby room in the motel.

Police were able to locate Roberson inside the motel.

During the investigation, police learned that Roberson’s two young children were in her vehicle at the time of the crash.

Roberson was placed under arrest and charged with:

  • OUI-Alcohol- 2nd Offense
  • Leaving the scene of an accident after causing property damage
  • Operating with a suspended License
  • Child endangerment

No injuries have been reported.
