Suspect charged in New Bedford man’s murder

A New Bedford man has been charged for the
November murder of Sharone Stafford.

District Attorney Sam Sutter
announced Friday that 25-year-old Hailton DaCosta has been charged with murder,
armed assault with intent to rob and possession of an illegal firearm.

Stafford, 31, was shot on Winsor Street in New Bedford just before midnight on November
23, 2013. He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

DaCosta is being held without bail and
will be arraigned on charges March 10.

Two other New Bedford men, Elito Mendes, 21, and Samir
Baptista, 27, are awaiting court dates in connection to the homicide.
