New Hampshire man sentenced for abandoning newborn in woods
MANCHESTER, N.H. (WLNE) — The Associated Press reports a 45-year-old man from New Hampshire was sentenced for endangering the life of a newborn baby after it was born in sub-freezing temperatures last year.
According to police, George Theberge was sentenced to at least a year behind bars on Monday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor child endangerment charge.
Officials said the baby boy was left alone in a tent for more than an hour on Dec. 26, 2022, as temperatures dropped below 15 degrees.
New Hampshire police referred to Theberge as the boyfriend of the baby’s mother, Alexandra Eckersley, 26, who is accused of abandoning her son without heat or proper clothing.
She pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, reckless conduct, and other counts, and was released on bail. She awaits trial next year.
