New R.I. judge to be sworn in

A veteran federal prosecutor is set to be sworn in as Rhode Island's newest Superior Court judge.

Luis Matos is scheduled to be sworn into office Monday.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee nominated Matos for the position. Matos served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Rhode Island since 2001. Before that he worked for the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C., and was an assistant U.S. attorney in Delaware. Matos is a Brown University graduate and earned his law degree at the University of Connecticut.

The 47-year-old Providence resident was born in Portugal and moved to the U.S. with his family as a child. He was the first member of his family to graduate from college.
